What kind of lighting to choose in a modern living room

What kind of lighting to choose in a modern living room: examples of ceiling and decorative lighting
Lighting in the living room is the main factor in creating a comfortable interior. How the room will be perceived depends on the light source. If there is not enough lighting or, conversely, too much, even a cool interior will be ruined. How to properly organize the location of the lamps will be discussed in this article.

Light in the interior of the living room can come from several sources at once. In modern design, it is customary to highlight each part of the room with a separate lamp. Below are the main types of lighting: basic, spot and decorative.

Basic lighting

This category includes sources of the main light array in the hall. Most often, they are just working, so you need to choose them correctly.

opinions

Chandeliers for the room are selected taking into account the height of the ceilings. For high rooms you need hanging models and many “branches”. In the classic Khrushchev or Brezhnevka the opposite is observed. A large chandelier will only reduce the height of the room, so ceiling lamps are preferable here.

Chandeliers on the stretch ceiling in the hall usually have a ceiling structure, but now they increasingly use suspended models.

Application

If you don't need to light up the entire room, you can use a small wall sconce. This is a small lamp used to illuminate a place to relax or read.

The sconce above the sofa in the living room is suitable for zoning. In the evening, when the eyes want to rest, the lamp will fill the room with soft light.

What are the advantages of a wall sconce? They don't take up much space, they are never superfluous and they are great for all styles.

Pendant lights

If you are planning an interior without a chandelier in the living room, you can use pendant lighting. They do not give much light, but they perform the zoning function well.

Pendant lights are indispensable, for example, when allocating a seating area or a reading chair.

Infinite combinations of lighting options are also allowed. The fixtures can be used both together and separately. In small living rooms, just one chandelier will be enough when a zone with a sconce does not interfere with the spacious living rooms.

Additional lighting

Additional types of lighting in the interior are needed to enhance the main one. It is important that they are suitable only for a hall with stretch and plasterboard ceilings, as they are recessed.

They are direct lighting fixtures. They give a narrow conical line, so they are installed in groups.

The feature of the spots is a rotation in any direction. If the mobility of the lighting in the living room is necessary, it can be directed to the table or sofa if desired.

Often spots are used for highlighting. For example, you can highlight a picture on the wall or a TV this way.

You should understand that spotlights are not suitable for illuminating the entire living room. Even one battery cannot provide the necessary amount of light.

Spotlights (stage lights)

Spotlights in the living room are common, but now they are leaving the TOP of design projects. Unlike spotlights, spotlights are built directly into the ceiling. They cannot be rotated, so they are installed along the perimeter of the ceiling.

Spotlights are not worth using as the main lighting in the living room. But they are perfect for backlighting!

Decorative lighting

Decorative lighting design in the hall is also a must. They do not perform a practical function, but bring comfort and homely atmosphere. The main thing is to work with them carefully so as not to oversaturate the room with lighting devices.

Floor lamp

If you are not happy with a wall lamp, a floor lamp is a great alternative. Place it next to a sofa or chair. They are useful for reading and relaxing in the evening when the eyes are tired of the light and want to rest.

Please note that combined lighting with a sconce is impossible! This violates the basic principles of interior organization. Two identical devices cancel each other out, while each of them becomes meaningless!

Lamba

The main difference between a lamp and a floor lamp is that the first one is placed on the bedside table. This is an indispensable attribute for reading. The bedside table can be used to store current literature and snacks.

There are hundreds of types of lamps. You can choose with directional lamp or off, remote control and push button. There are also designer lamps with unique shapes and colors.

Light zoning

As mentioned, the lighting in a modern style living room should be combined. Using several types of lamps will help divide even a small room into functional areas. For example:

  • a place to rest;
  • reading area;
  • work area;
  • children's section.

Its main advantage is that there is no need for global redevelopment. You can delimit the space as you wish without making any changes to the architecture of the room.

The simplest zoning is carried out with additional light sources. Therefore, a battery point or pedestal is placed above the work area. Even if the chandelier is off, they will be able to occupy the necessary space. The resting place will be illuminated by a pair of floor lamps or lamps, pendant lighting fixtures are suitable as night lights.

Do not forget about the backlit stretch ceilings. By running the LED strip, you can draw the boundaries of the zone.

General tips for arranging lighting

The illuminated hall can be visually expanded and increased if you apply the tricks of designers. There are 3 of them:

  1. If the hall is small, it can be expanded by scattering spotlights with the minimum allowable step.
  2. A narrow room can be expanded with an accent. One long wall needs to be illuminated more powerfully than a friend using wall lamps, spotlights or LED strips.
  3. In a low living room you need a powerful chandelier. Lighting in a living room with a glossy stretch ceiling should be directed upwards to create the illusion of a mirror.
