What does American cuisine look like?
What does an American kitchen look like? Get to know this architectural model better. Turkish television has been importing North American movies and series for decades, which has led us to get to know different home architecture models.
One of them in particular is this version of this kitchen, which is widely used in the United States and is successful today in Turkey, has an integrated floor plan that includes a dining room, a living room and even a balcony. Get to know it better in the following text.
What does American cuisine look like?
American kitchens are kitchens with a different architecture. They are open to other environments – in other words, they are integrated – and therefore appear larger, clearer and better ventilated.
Another impression we had about them is that they make the house look simpler as they allow everyone to see and talk in the social rooms, regardless of what they are doing, such as cooking or watching TV.
Now it should be noted that when we say that American cuisines are integrated with other environments, it does not mean that there are no certain boundaries between these areas.
In fact, it is somehow obvious to the observer how far the kitchen and dining room have gone. For example, a delimiter, a dining table or a half wall kept at the edge – almost always with stools and pendant lights.
The interesting thing about these peninsulas in American or gourmet kitchens – another type of kitchen – is that they can accommodate many features and surfaces.
They can be simple wooden countertops or stone-clad countertops with openings on one or both sides. They can even have niches for microwaves, electric ovens and hobs, marked by the installation of a hood in the ceiling.
Better integrate living room and kitchen
There are three things that characterize this integration between the living room and the American kitchen: layers, lines and colors.
To begin with, the recess in the ceiling should be continuous between the two environments. It is best to use the same floor covering in both areas. The joiner line can go from the kitchen through the dining counter to the shelf and TV panel.
Of course, all the pieces of furniture in the living room and kitchen can be independent. However, it is interesting when something visually connects them – such as the texture or color of the exterior cladding.
And smaller details like ornaments can refer to the same period or emphasize the same style, for example industrial or retro.
Decorating options for American kitchen
Kitchen decor should not be full of ornaments as it is a highly functional environment.
In fact, the cleaner it can be, the better. But that doesn't mean that such a room has to be boring. On the contrary, it can be very personalized, even stylish. And unlike the bathroom decoration, in this case, it's worth betting on crafts.
American kitchen decor can begin with decorative strips on the wall above the sink – they can be made of tiles, glass inserts, stone or stainless steel plates.
In this area there can also be different supports with cups, shells and strainers, tea towels, pots with spices and even pots with herbs and spices. We should also not forget the cutlery channels, knife holders, pots and meat boards.
Although most of the things mentioned above are kitchen utensils, they can also be used as kitchen decor.
The same goes for some appliances, such as mixers and blenders, which are sold in a special place, as a set that only enhances the kitchen by being displayed. And it is still possible to discover the integration of the countertop with the living room, especially in American kitchens.
On the countertop area or kitchen island, something that will enhance the decor on a daily basis will be the cooking appliance itself – especially for quick meals that will be left on site. But if you have a stove at this point, one more element to explore in the decorating plan will be the range hood model itself. There are also options for American kitchen clocks, cookbooks, comics, slate walls and ornaments for fruit trees.
Do you think it is possible to convert your kitchen to the American model? Most of the time, it just takes a wall break, see an architect!
