How to combine the kitchen and living room and how to zone the space correctly?

U shaped kitchen

The U-shaped kitchen furniture layout does not necessarily have to be aligned along the walls. In a spacious kitchen-living room, a set can be placed in the corner, placing a row of cabinets perpendicular to the wall. In this case, the lower line of the kitchen unit will serve as a natural boundary between the living room and the area where food is prepared.

Bar Kitchen

The bar counter is often the barrier between the kitchen area and the living area. If you place a work surface, a sink or even a stove on the countertop, it can be assigned the role of a functional center. Also, you can limit yourself to the “light” option, when the shelf will serve only for snacking or sitting at the laptop with a cup of coffee.

Kitchen with an island

One of the most convenient kitchen layouts is an island. It successfully implements the working triangle rule and contributes to comfortable work in the kitchen.

In the combined kitchen-living room, the island, like the bar counter, will perfectly cope with the role of separator of functional areas. It can also serve both directly for cooking and as an auxiliary surface. It all depends on what functionality you want to give it.

The table is like a border

One of the easiest ways to separate the kitchen from the living room is to install a large dining table. With this solution, the kitchen flows seamlessly into the dining room and from there into the living room.

This is a good solution for medium and small spaces – no unnecessary structures that “eat up” space.

Divide the space with a sofa

placing a sofa is another option for conditional zoning of the kitchen and living room. Since it is an integral part of the recreation area, why not give it the function of a divider? Like the dining table as a border, this option is also good because it does not require any assembly work.

Partitioned kitchen

With all the advantages of a combined kitchen-living room, it has many disadvantages that you would like to get rid of. For example, some guests came to you and the kitchen is a “creative mess”. Or you are a lover of aromatic dishes and do not want the smells to permeate the house. A rather rare, but valid solution is to place the kitchen in a niche and fence it off with sliding partitions. It will be a compromise between solid walls and an open plan. If necessary, the kitchen becomes autonomous.

Suitable furniture for kitchen and living room

Especially for interconnected spaces, some furniture factories offer furniture sets, including kitchen furniture and storage systems for the living room, made in the same style. Examples include Arredo3 kitchens and modular solutions from Modulnova.
