Dining room cabinets: choose wisely

How should buffets and buffet models be?

The most popular cabinet for a kitchen or dining room is a sideboard. In the classic version, it has three tiers: a closed lower part, a volumetric niche in the middle, a glazed or upper block with open shelves. Sometimes the sideboard has a small pull-out tabletop. It can be useful when serving several plates on the table or when cleaning dishes after a meal.

Buffets are different types of cabinets, but in everyday life these names are used interchangeably. Both types of cabinets have a counter where ready meals can be placed before being served, but the buffet is usually longer than the sideboard.

The buffet is used to store dishes, tablecloths and napkins, or small quantities of dry food.

Chests of drawers, pedestals, kredentsy

The first cabinets were chests of drawers and cabinets with hinged doors. Today they have not lost their relevance. In a low drawer with wide shelves it is convenient to store large items that are rarely used: heavy dishes, highly specialized household appliances, napkins and paper towels. In the drawers you can place cutlery and small accessories.

A mini cabinet for dishes, which is a chest of drawers with several drawers under the table top, has its own name – credenza (from the Italian credenza – a dresser).

Showcases and slides

Do you have a magnificent service or fine crystal glassware? Don't hide it behind blind doors! A slide or display case will help to show it off in all its glory.

What is the difference between them? A display cabinet, as a rule, has 4 glazed sides and no lower closed section. This piece of furniture is more decorative than utilitarian.

The slide consists of two parts: the lower part with drawers and the upper structure with three glasses. The back wall of the slide is always closed. As in the display case, only the “ceremonial” dishes are stored flawlessly in the upper part of the slide.

Wine racks and bars

Among the storage systems for the dining room, it is worth highlighting wine cabinets and bars.

Both these and others can be temperature controlled or uncontrolled. The difference lies in the purpose – wine cabinets are designed specifically for storing wine, glasses and accessories, but bars can also be used for serving and drinking drinks.
