Dining table chair models – The same dining table can look completely different depending on the chairs that surround it. What to choose – a compact model without armrests, a comfortable chair that looks more like an armchair or a chair that combines both options?
Chairs, armchairs and half chairs – what's the difference?
Chairs and chairs do not differ in the presence or absence of armrests. More precisely, not only that. The main parameter is the seat height. The seat height of the chair is such that it will be comfortable to sit at a standard dining table with a height of 72-75 cm, that is, about 45-50 cm.
The chair has a lower seat, about 40 cm high. And its width, as a rule, is sufficient not only to sit up straight, but also to lean to the side. Some chairs do not have armrests, but because of the low seat they cannot be considered chairs.

Armchairs are sometimes categorized as semi-chairs. They are designed to sit at a dining table along with chairs and stools, but are comfortable leaning from the seat toward the coffee table.

Choosing dining chairs
Having understood the classification, you can start choosing. The starting point should be the location of the dining group. If there is enough space around, you can consider half chairs. If the space around the table is limited, it is better to choose chairs without armrests – they are more compact and mobile.

Arguments for chairs with armrests:
- appear more sturdy than traditional chairs;
- allow you to take a comfortable position by leaning on the armrest;
- give dishes a serious touch;
But don't forget about the disadvantages:
- half chairs “eat up” the space around the table;
- may not be suitable for some people;
- more expensive than chairs without armrests.

Compromise solution
If you like the furniture series that includes both chairs and half chairs, you can buy both options. There are two ways to arrange chairs with and without armrests:
- Modern: switch between one (number of chairs must be even);
- Historical: put half-chairs at the ends and sides – models without armrests.

Sometimes you can find an option when the table is complemented by chairs without armrests and a “main” one, more like an armchair. It is also possible to place a chair with armrests at the end of a rectangular table.
