“Floating Beds”: Sleep Like You’re on a Cloud
Floating beds on one leg
The floating bed was invented by Italian designer and founder of the Lago factory, Daniel Lago. The first floating bed in the world was called Fluttua (“Float”).
The levitation effect is created by an inconspicuous central support. The Fluttua backrest is fixed to the wall for stability. The visual impression is enhanced by the optional illumination of the bed base.
Over time, Fluttua made several modifications. Namely, there were models for installation in a corner and with a round place for sleeping.
The “airy” Fluttua was an instant hit. Following Lago, other factories released similar models.

The Cattelan Italia factory offers a range of beds on a central support. They differ from the “floating” Fluttua in that they do not need to be fixed to the wall.

Key advantages of a “floating” bed
In addition to the original appearance, “floating” beds have a completely “ordinary” advantage. It is very easy to keep the area under the bed clean. No dust – just air!
For those concerned with reliability, we hasten to assure that “floating” beds are reliable and safe. Original Italian-made models are designed to hold at least twice the average weight of several people, which cannot be said about the numerous copies that small studios offer to order.
Beds on “invisible” legs
The success of the Fluttua model inspired Daniel Lago to create another “levitating” bed.
Airy, weightless, a little frivolous – such associations are evoked by the Lago Air mattress. The floating feeling is created by the almost invisible legs made of transparent tempered glass, which replace the traditional legs. The ultra-thin bed base is almost invisible and hides a little secret.
The air bed is part of a wide range of glass-supported furniture from Lago, which includes modular systems, tables and pedestals.

Shortly after the creation of the Air mattress, the similar Lago Vele with a multi-layered back pocket and the Lago Wildwood with a headboard made of natural wood with minimal processing appeared.

Like the Fluttua, the Lago Air mattress quickly gained popularity, and the idea of transparent “invisible” feet was borrowed by some designers and factories.
