Facade cladding technology with natural stone

Facade cladding with stone – a widespread application that allows not only to achieve attractiveness from a building, but also to reliably protect its walls from moisture, blowing and mechanical stress.

Benefits of natural stone

Facade cladding with natural materials is not only beautiful, but also practical for the following reasons:

  • Stone reliably protects walls from external influences. It does not allow the wind to blow away the heat, protects against frost, moisture, ultraviolet rays, shock, fungi and rodents.
  • Stone facade does not require much attention, its maintenance is extremely simple and inexpensive.
  • High aesthetic appeal.
  • Durability: Using natural stone has been a solution for hundreds of years, not decades.
  • The material does not lose its properties regardless of weather conditions and can be applied in any region of the country.

Unlike cheaper artificial stone, natural stone has many advantages that put it in first place among high-quality finishing materials.

Execution of work

Facade cladding technology with natural stone – a rather complex set of works, significantly different from the interior decoration. Outside, the walls are decorated with large, rather heavy tiles, called slabs. The seams between the tiles must be carefully sealed, waterproofed, and the walls must be insulated. There are also some installation features, for example, it is recommended to carry out facade work in the warm season, but if you have to work in the winter, they pull a special film under which they work like in a greenhouse.

If the job is done correctly, the contractor will install hinged ventilation systems. This is needed to prevent condensation from accumulating under the tiles on the walls, to prevent mold from forming and to ensure natural air circulation.

Facing the house with stone It is further complicated by the fact that it is necessary to install special frames; they can be made of aluminum or steel. Thus, the plates are securely fixed, and a gap is created between them and the wall for free air circulation. Such a task is quite laborious and requires some experience, despite the fairly simple scheme. The most difficult thing is when the walls are uneven or have bends, rounded lines provided for by the project.

Material selection

Facing natural stone – This is also a creative process to some extent, as there is a wide variety of colors and tile decorations, so you will need to think about how you want your home to be. Technically, any type of granite is suitable for cladding. Color and texture do not affect the properties of the stone, so you are free to choose any product that you like from the outside.

Hard marble is often used for facade work, but is only suitable for warm climates. Quartz or amphebolite, limestone, sandstone and other cheaper rocks with a dense structure are often used. You can often find Dagestan stone, as it has a low cost and a warm shade.

Granite is colder, harder, suitable for magnificent classical architecture, so it is often used to decorate the walls of government institutions, for example, courts, banks, prosecutors' offices. The stone does not require difficult maintenance, it is enough to wash it with mild detergents as it gets dirty, and protect it with a polish when it is completely dry.
